Busy but really great – I know now, why people wait for a table at Jake's Grill. The food is great. Our steaks were grilled to perfection, the tomato and Mozzerella salad was mouth watering and fresh, and the Warm Chocolate cake was outstanding. What a great place. My freind from San Francisco was very impressed as well. Our server was very friendly and met our every need. I would highly recomened. It's a busy place and no wonder.
Can't go wrong! Great food! – The food is GREAT! If you go for happy hour you can get any drink you want and their $2 food items are amazing! They have burgers, sushi, chicken and even veggie plates! If you want cheap eats...go during happy hour! If you want great food that cost more but is well worth it go for a full meal. It is well worth the $$!
Did Not Honor our Reservation – We made a reservation for Jake's using their online service days in advance. When we arrived at the restaurant on the evening of our reservation, we were told that we needed to wait for our table. Wait for our table?! But we had a reservation. I asked the matre di how long the wait would be. He was quite rude and would not give me a definite time, saying "long enough to have a cocktail." Lost it's edge – Two years ago I would have given Jake's a 5 but in the last few years it's really lost it's edge. The food is not consistent. The steaks are often grizzly. The roast was very dry. They are often out of things on the menu and the service has gotten spotty, sometimes good, sometimes not. Very sad, there was a time I ate 3 meals a day there.
Great service and Food – The best Salmon I have ever had and I got this at a "Steak House"? My Friend had the Filet that was outstanding! Casual dining, freindly professional staff and No Smoke. [Jake's allows smoking in the Bar only after 9:00 P.M.] No wonder this is one of Portland's landmarks.
Best server on the PLANET and FANTASTIC crabcakes – My friends and I were in Portland for the weekend and had just attended the Beer and Wine Fest and wanted to stop at a place where we could get a small bite to eat and a few more drinks. It was a little spendy for the budget we were on, so we asked our server if there were other places in the area to get some drinks and possibly some food to soak 'em up. Restaurant filled with cigarette smoke, waitstaff too slow!! – Based on other reviews I read, I was expecting Jake's Grill to be a great experience. I was so turned off that I promptly left. When I arrived, the entire restaurant smelled like cigarette and cigar smoke. While the "smoking section" is confined to the bar, they may as well just let people smoke in the entire restaurant. Best Food & Service in town – If you haven't gone to Jake's Grill you need to go. Their food is top notch, service is superior, and their atmosphere is great. For the food and service that you get you the prices are fantanstic. I'm new to Portland and absolutly love it. Every time someone comes in from out of town I make it a point to take them. DON'T HEISTATE ,GET TO IT, GO TO JAKE'S!
Great Appetizers!!! – I work right by Jake's and probably go about once a month for happy hour. If you get there by 4:45 you can usually get a table, they have great, cheap eats and usually fairly decent service. I will say though, I have lived in Portland for years and have always frequented both Jake's and complaints that I read by others recently (in the last couple of years) I have noticed as well...dirty silverware, dirty glasses, food not as good, rude host staff, long waits...hopefully, they will be able to turn it ar... read more
