Great for Special Occasions – I?ve eaten here twice in the last six months and I have not been disappointed either time. Yes, it is pricy. Yes, the wait staff can be snooty at first. And, yes, it can be hard to get a table. However, the menu has a wide rage of items and not all of them are expensive. The portions are generous enough so, you can share a meal with another person (if you are not starving). The quality of the food is excellent, and with every item I have eaten there, nothing has been substandard. During my most ... read more
Great Time! – My wife and I just got home from dining at Jake's Grill. It was great! We arrived early for our reservation and went to the bar for a cocktail. It was very busy and we had to wait for a table to open up, we ended up sitting at the bar. The bartenders were fun and friendly, they obviously have a regular crowd as it seemed they new everyone. I picked up the Happy Hour menu, what a deal. 1/2 pound burger for 1.95? The hostess came and took us to our table, we sat at a nice window "booth". Our server arrived and se... read more
Way overpriced...terrible food & service... – We always use City Search to find local spots to check out. This was no exception. We were celebrating my birthday dinner. I made reservations online. We showed up, and got a nice window table and were sat quckly. So far so good. While waiting 10 minutes for a server to greet us, we has a chance to take in the scene: dirty old tile floors, paper table liners on top of white linens (very tacky) and as the last poster said - dirty silverware and glasses. The place was loud and unke... read more
Beware Of Dirty Silverware and Dishes – My brother and I decided to try something different. It was a nice Sunday afternoon. I had always heard of Jakes Grill but never had a chance to try it until now. We were promptly seated. Minutes after being seated, the waitress brought us our coffee. She was very polite. We couldn't help but notice the coffee cups were dirty. We then started to notice how everything on our table was dirty. From the bread plates to the silverware already on our table. We didn't even order our food. We ... read more
Superb All around – From the outside, Jakes just looks like an average bar and grill. But when you go inside you are treated to some of the best steaks and seafood in town. This would be the best steakhouse in town if the staff were not incredibly rude. I suggest going at the happy hour, when the prices are not so outrageous. For about $5, you get the best french onion soup you will ever feast on. (P.S. It really helps to on a Wendsday when it is not that crowded)
Salmon is to die for! – My husband and I were wary about Jake's at first; we were invited by some friends, and due to their reputation were a little anxious about just how pricey our meal was going to be. Imagine our surprise at the highly realistic prices on the menu! Our waiter was very enjoyable, and understood without us saying a word that we were out for a night of fun! I had the salmon (delicious!) on asparagus cooked to the absolute perfect point, and my husband enjoyed a steak cooked precisely the way he requested it... read more
Reservations are meaningless to this restaurant! – My Fiance and I went to Jake's Grill to celebrate our anniversary on a Friday night. I made reservations for a window seat a few days earlier and they confirmed that it would be done. When we arrived the hostess gave us a cold greeting and informed us that even though they had our reservations, we would still have to wait for a table to open. We waited for ten minutes in their over-crowded bar while people who walked in after us got tables. Finally a host came to seat us. Th... read more
wonderful – I went out for dinner with my friend and was skeptical when I made my online reservation. I had read reviews that the staff was rude, etc. We got right in AND got a window seat (which I asked for)! The food was fabulous (I had steak and my friend had the salmon). The service was perfect, we were not bothered too much, but our server was there enough where we did not feel forgotten. The chocolate cake is to die for--it is the BEST I've ever had. So, we had a successful dinner, I recommend this place to anyone!
cool joint! – Had my fiirst visit to Portland this week. Was on the city rail system discussing with a friend about where to eat lunch. A local overheard us mention Jake's Grill and said it's a great place. On that recommendation we went and very glad we did! The atmosphere was elegant, yet very comfortable...it reminded me of one of my fav's, Maggiano's in Nashville's West End. The prices were lower than I had expected and the quality of food was high. Our server was prompt and very friendly....and that's coming from a Sout... read more
