Mexican food is often confused with Tex-Mex. Not so at Hugo's. Award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega offers your taste buds a culinary tour of Mexico. From the beaches of Baja California, open your palate with the refreshing limey goodness of his ever-popular red snapper ceviche. Explore the complex and earthy duck in molé poblano sauce or the delicacy of pan sautéed chapulines. Roam the streets of Mexico City with a sampler plate of sopesitos. Wash it all down with flights of the finest tequila.

Tasty and classy.......watch for surprise appetizer – I really enjoyed Hugo's. The food was excellent and the margaritas were good. I couldn't help but notice that the waiter charged us for guacamole he brought with our chips which we never asked for. Had he asked if we would like some, we likely would have said yes; but we found charging for unordered food a bit deceptive. So, we removed the cost from his tip. Other than that, the restaurant would have gotten two thumbs way up.
Spectacular Mexican Cuisine and Setting – I went to lunch at Hugo's with co-workers to celebrate my birthday recently. I had never heard of Hugo's, but the second I stepped into the restaurant I was completely in love! The Mexican decor, high ceilings, tall windows, great smooth music playing...ALL you could ever want in a classy Mexican restaurant! The food was simply amazing with jaw-dropping presentation. The service was absolute perfection as my party's glasses never reached half empty and the waitress was very helpful i... read more
A Unique Spectacle... – Like most very popular restaurants, the best time to experience this place is anytime that isn't peak hours, otherwise you might find yourself elbowing your neighbor. If you're entertaining visitors from out-of-town, especially from up north, take them here and show off your Border-State culinary sophistication by ordering a pomegranate margarita and anything with huitlacoche (pronounced weet-la-koh-chey) in it. Huitlacoche is the Mexican version of truffles, utterly delicious, and impossible to find.... read more
Every single week... – Four years in Houston. Unless I am out of the country I am at this fanatastic place every week. Every single item on the menu is fantastic. Great value for the money. Fantastic margaritas. The only issue - put the pumpkin seeds back in the peanut mixture. It has been going down over the last two years and finally none were in the little bowl three nights ago. Decor is getting close to needing a redo. Otherwise, despite no reservation, even on busy night, we are always setted promptly and the moles are ... read more
Exciting regional Mexican cuisine in a stunningly earthy, Latin-inspired setting. – The Scene This trendy hacienda crawls with foodies who are banking on the reputation of Tracy Vaught and Chef Hugo Ortega, owners of the beloved Backstreet Cafe. The Food Chef Ortega features refined Mexico City classics with a contemporary twist. F... read more
One of my favorites – I left Houston years ago, but every visit to town includes a meal at Hugo's. My wife and I count this among our top 5 favorite restaurants. Unlike many of the posts I see here, I have never had a problem with seating, service or food quality. As someone who travels in Mexico and loves to try their regional cuisine, and as someone who is quite picky about my food quality, I must say this place has never disappointed me. I do park on the street to avoid the valet service. For a great meal with Mexican fla... read more
Great Restaraunt! – I live in The Woodlands and have driven in to Houston twice in the last month, once for lunch and once for dinner. The food, margaritas salsa - fabulous. The service by the staff was great. Large selection of tequilas.
Make reservations now – An upscale Mexican restaurant in an old warehouse. Our server described each dish in detail, showing both enthusuam and knowledge. The drinks, including Margaitas and Mojitas, were well above average. The food was superb -- unusual preparations and ingredients, beautifully presented. In fact, we so enjoyed our dinner, we returned with four other firend three nights later for another dinner. Again, we impressed with the quality and the fair prices.
Must Visit – Hugo's is a great experience - a must visit for a business dinner or a nice evening with family or friends. I've been with a large group and was pleased with the ambience, suggestions by our waiter and the prompt service. Recently, I went back to Hugo's with my family and we were completely blown away by the excellent food and the attentive service throughout our evening. Everything from our appetizers to the desserts and coffee was a culinary delight - both our girls said the quesidillas were best ever. We high... read more
