Not going back – My man and I wanted to try a different restaurant, and we drove by Hugo's all the time. Service was okay, could have been more friendly. It is beautiful inside, but VERY loud. We were seated at a weird bench table that looks at the tables against the window. The waitstaff kept coming and standing next to me to make room for other waitstaff - that was annoying! Food was waaaay below what I expected. Very bland. Would recommend if someone else is paying.

Top 5 meals of my life – I recently visited Yankee Stadium for the first time, and my beloved Astros pitched a no-hitter. Since that magical night, I know now that anything can happen. Hugo's was a similarly exquisite experience. The mere fact that I'm moved to write this is proof that this is some powerful medicine. Why anyone would ever rate this less than a 9 is beyond my comprehension. The food, drink, ambiance, service and overall experience were absolutely fabulous. Easily the best margarita in town. The best ceviche I... read more

Americanized - Mex – First off, peanuts are no substitute for chips and salsa. I can appreciate that they are trying to be original, but I missed my mexican food favorites, (i.e. they had crepes but not sopapillas). I had to refill my own water because the service was so slow, though the restaurant was relatively empty. I asked the waiter to make my enchiladas spicy, to which he replied they were already very spicy... they weren't... not even a little. Strangely, I wasn't surprised. The best part of the meal was that my boss... read more

Different kind of Mexican – In the world of Mexican restaurants, this is not your average enchilada. The food is not typical of most Mexican restaurants in Houston but it is Mexican. The food is wonderful and count on the waitstaff to give you recommendations. The margaritas are killer and on nice days ask for a seat on the patio. Avoid the crowd by not dining on Saturdays and don't valet, park down the street.

Great Cabrito and Margaritas! – Though the service is poor, evruthing else was very good. The margaritas were very fresh and done right!. I had carbirto that was very tasty.

Margaritas for all – Margaritas are the best in town, but the food & menu lacks originality. I had a shrimp dish & would not recommend it, VERY salty! The service was not great either. But, we did not have reservations on a Saturday night & got in with minimal wait. With all the other great restaurants in town, we probably won't go back.

A group of my friends and I visited this restaurant for a small holiday get-together. We DID have reservations, which I recommend! The location, ambiance, decor, food, drinks, and service of this restaurant can all be summed up as just exquisite! We were drawn to the restaurant after reviewing the eclectic menu which featured duck, cabrito, and rabbit...and then some of your more traditional dishes too! Everything from the chicken enchiladas to the Cabrito was fabulous! A little pricey but well worth it...WHAT A TREAT!

Overhyped, but still solid – This is definitely a place to "see and be seen." But even while it emphasizes style over substance, Hugo's offers an interesting menu that is a refreshing (albeit overhyped) departure from the Tex-Mex standards found elsewhere in town. The wine list is more than sufficient, and the sommelier is down-to-earth and helpful. The bartenders are similarly friendly and concoct marvelous margaritas. Service at the tables is slow, however, and the hostesses are not particularly warm or gracious. Reservati... read more

All sizzle, no steak – Upon entering Hugo's vast, open dining room, my expectations rose. This was sure to be the pinnacle of Mexican dining. We arrived without a reservation (a big, big mistake), and after waiting 1hr 15min, were seated at an impressive-looking table overlooking lower Westheimer. The modern loft apartment meets old Mexico decor, with its smooth surfaces, makes for almost intolerable noise levels. This is no place for a romantic dinner for two. The food is not your average Tex Mex, so don't come looking for ... read more
