Riding off a name.... – It's good for out of town guests and all. Good acts play there too. But the seating is LACKING most of the time unless you pay tons for the upstairs balcony (way higher food and drink minimum qualifies you). Often you must stand. The food dishes sound good and homey but don't always live up to it. And the gospel brunch only has quasi gospel -it's not the choir and stuff you think you'd see. Not bad place, but not as great as the name implies either. Hipper than Hard Rock, inferior to Key Club.
More Like House of Rules – I'm sorry but I used to go to HOB in New Orleans about 10 years ago and it was fun. It is the most CORPORATE, GENTRIFIED venue with the rudest security and searches that are such a joke. What are these guys looking for? They made a girl with a tiny purse, empty out everything meanwhile it was chilly and rainy "They are like what's that, what's this? VERY RUDE ALL THE WHILE. Then they go over every inch of you for like 3 or 4 minutes. IF YOU WANT A CAVITY SEARCH GO TO HOUSE OF RULES. ME, I'LL NEVER ... read more
Ok place for a concert, but don't park there... – So I went to see a concert there, and it was pretty good. They let us in with plenty of time etc... If you drive, find anywhere else to park. The valet parking is $15 bucks. If you do park there with the valet, CHECK YOUR CAR BEFORE YOU DRIVE AWAY!!!!! They were in such a hurry to get everyone their cars and going, that I didn't check my car. The next day I found that they backed my car against a wall and scratched up the bumper. I called the valet service, and there is nothi... read more
Sunset Strip shanty is a musical must with a renowned gospel brunch, unforgettable decor and live bands galore. – This famous shanty on the infamous Strip plays host to a broad musical spectrum, from pop stars to rappers to hardcore rock acts like Atreyu--despite its name, there's rarely genuine blues artists on the stage. That said, this is probably one of the best spots in town to garner a heaping helping of nostalgia as acts like KC and the Sunshine Band and Billy Idol perform for devotees. Sundays take a 180-degree turn ... read more
House of Blues is good! – I've been to the House of Blues a bunch and think that the food is really good. It's comfort food, so if you are looking for fine dining, go somewhere else. This is southern style food liek jambalaya and ribs and chicken. We always hit the restaurant before a show to fill our belly before we start drinking, plus you get into the show ahead of the line outside which is cool. Last week I tried the Fried Shrimp and Grits before the John Legend show and it was a good night all around....totally recommen... read more
Believe the reviews! McDonalds has better service – I have been to the HOB restaurant in New Orleans several times and all experiences were great (food, service, etc...). We went to HOB Sunset Strip "The Porch" restaurant before a show (which they advertise so you can "get in early") and it was an awful experience. The waiter took our order 20 minutes after we were seated; that was about the only time we saw him; he never even welcomed or greeted us, my steak was bloody rare when I ordered it well-done; like the other review... read more
Dinner and a Show – Too expensive for the quality of the food and service. Hey but this is Hollywood. Highly recommended before a show.
Decent place to see a show – The HOB has a cool look to it and some cool gimmicky features like a balcony that moves to the side during shows, although I think it almost makes it too Disneyland-ish. They do get the occasional good act, and some lame ones too. The valet parking is a expensive nightmare, but then again it is the strip. Overall its worth it if a band you really love is playing there.
House of Boo's – I've been to many gigs at the house of blues. All I can say is that they have the worst event staff I've ever come across. After standing in line for 2 hours waiting for a night of audiogenic extacy. The dullards of the house of blues waited intil 5 minutes before the opening band comes on to start frisking people. I am not lying when I say that the opener must of been playing in front of 20 people at the start of their set. When I finally made it into the club. They were on their last song! What do these gu... read more
