Just got back and I loved every minute of our tour. I feel like I had an adventure rather than a vacation, in large part because we got to experience different things, but primarily because I learned so much. Just returned from Gate 1's 12-day Vietnam tour. If I could rate it 10 stars, I would. Everything was perfect! Our guide, Tho Nguyen ("Tommy"), was with us every second, from the time we arrived at the airport in Ho Chi Minh City until we departed for the US. I am returning from my first European trip to Spain. I took my 12 yr. old son and my friend with me. My son was the youngest of the group, but he had a great time. Cesar was our tour manager and he was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Spain as we visited 5 cities in 6 days and he knew the history of them all, as well as the ones we passed on our way to the next destination. I will be booking my next trip with gate 1!
I'm currently on day 9 of a 13 day tour in Thailand. For the most part, everything has been okay. You do lose two days just getting here (which they count in the 13). Just want to share a recent experience with Gate 1 tours, whom we loved until now: We were recently on their tour of India and Nepal. While there, we were taken to stores as usual. In India, we bought a few pieces of jewelry with stones "from India" (which may be true), with the assurances from the guide that this was a "gate 1 guaranteed store" and that he had "secured at 15% discount for us". My family and I have used Gate 1 for five separate trips, and we always LOVED the trips. But on our last trip to India, there were ethical issues that were so serious we have decided not to use the company again- and that we needed to warn other travelers! Our guide in India was running a scam and deliberately fleecing tourists, and Gate 1 repeatedly dismissed our concerns after the fact.
