Enjoyable, easy access – I liked the easy access coming from downtown. The massage and facial were great and relaxing. I heard about this place from a co-worker and she has been going here for years. The way I experienced these people know what they are doing as I was in business myself before.
WORST spa in Manhattan – I received a gift certificate from my boyfriend for Christmas to this spa. I went on Sat. 1/26/08. I have been to 4 spas in the City and this way by far the WORST. The woman at the door was very rude to her employees in front of the customers. The waiting area is in the OPEN with MEN! I was sitting in my robe getting a manicure/pedicure in the waiting area and the food delivery man just walked right in and was standing there waiting to get paid. I guess the mean old woman at the door is too lazy to w... read more
missing luxury – if you are looking for a relaxing, luxurious spa experience...dont bother. The rooms in this spa are located off of a hallway where everyone walks so you can hear everything when you are in the rooms getting a massage. I went this past weekend and it was terrible. It seemed like they overbooked appointments and I had to wait 40 minutes between services. Also, it was very uncomfortable having to wait in a very crowded waiting room in my bathrobe with other fully clothed people (including men). The services th... read more
Good facial, but lacking the luxury – I was excited to try this spa. I don't visit spas frequently, but I do enjoy the luxurious element of the experience. The waiting room is, well a waiting room- where people in street clothes and robes sit, over looking the street. There is no spa atmosphere, and not particularly well decorated either. The change rooms are tiny, with flimsy curtain cubicles for changing- a bit like a gym. No flowers, nice soaps and again, lacking the luxury. At the end, the receptionist tried to sell me p... read more
great spa experience – let me start by saying that i've been to many spas in my day. the problem i come across most often is that a lot of spas charge exorbitant prices, but the quality of the treatments, and the spa experiences as a whole, are not worth half of it. i come across this problem more often than not, especially in new york. but this was not the case here, and my experience was fantastic. i snuck out of work a little early and was at the spa within a few minutes, which was really convenient. i wasn't really sure ... read more
Smart choice! – Two years ago, I moved to nyc to change jobs. My job has long hours and so I needed to look for a spa for rest and relaxation. I didn't know where to go. So, I asked some of my friends and they referred me to the Dorit Baxter Spa. I checked it out after work - boy, I sure needed a good massage! Being that I serve my clients all day, I needed for somebody to serve me! Right when I entered the spa, I felt like I entered a new, tranquil, soothing environment. It almost seemed like to an oasis away from the city ... read more
Worst waxing experience ever... – When I first got off the elevator at the spa I had a bad feeling and wanted to turn around and walk out. The entrance is extremely shoddy... In other words, it doesn't look like a place that should be charging $40 for an eyebrow appt. I decided to hope for the best. Mistake. The woman at the desk was very gruff, she checked me in, asked very loudly if I needed to use the "toilets!" (which was wet - with god knows what - water? from ceiling to floor. How does that even happen?) and then depos... read more
Dorit Baxter – I had a great time when i went to the spa not too long ago. I had gotten a gift certificate for my birthday for a massage, facial, body scrub, and pedicure. Everything about my experience was positive, from making the appointment , to walking out the door. I felt like every employee really cared about whether or not I was comfortable and relaxed - which I really was! My massage was great, and the body scrub made me feel like a new person. The facial was excellent as well, and I got a lot of good advice about h... read more
