Happy Wife= Happy me, BUT... – Making reservations was great- super helpful. However, I'd have to agree with the other posts, the space is cramped, the "checklist" is busch league, the view is nice (but it's not what you come for), the massage was ok though a huge letdown. The reception staff seem rushed and the spa staff all seemed out of shape, drab and unexcited about their jobs. Awful place - bring a book while you wait – What an awful place, I can't imagine any celebs would come here. The staff look unhygienic and unprofessional, I went during spa week and they made me sit out there and wait ONE HOUR to get my facial which was scheduled in advance. The facial itself was mostly getting stuff slopped on and then the attendant leaving you alone for 20 minutes while it did its work; and one treatment they did on my face left a dark burn scar which is still here 3 months later. Not professional - no customer service – I booked this place with a friend as a late minute thing Bliss was booked up. Our massage was good but the place feels like a factory. Come in check off a sheet of paper like they cant keep a record of what you booked or how many clients they have. During my massage I could hear another customer blabber on and so I could not relax. Excruciating Waxing – I came here during Spa Week for the Brazilian Wax with Eyebrow Shaping. I will say, that I regret trying out this place just because it was Spa Week, and will never again come here for a waxing again. I have had many many brazilian waxes throughout NYC, and I have never been in so much pain having it done! I'm on the fence with Dorit Baxter – I have been to Dorit Baxter three times and time was a different experience. The first time I went I had a Sea Salt Body Scrub which was to die for I highly recommend it . The manicure and pedicure was the worst, the seating is very crammed and they soak your feet in a glass bowl that reminded me of something I use for cooking. Great deals and treatments for the price! – My boyfriend and I went as spa newbees and had a wonderful experience. We got a great package special (massage, facial, body scrub, and mani (for me) and pedi (for him) all for $430). The massage and facial were extremely good. The mani/pedi was average, but still not too bad. The body scrub made our body so soft and smooth, it was wonderful! Overall, our experience was definitely good and we'll be back!
Me and six of my girlfriends had a spa day at Dorit Baxter a couple of Sundays ago. It was like walking into paradise. As soon as you enter the Spa you totally forget that you are in the middle of New York City. The staff are wonderful, polite and professional. We did the Luxe package which is an one hour facial and an one hour massage. Aretha did my massage and Kimi did my facial. You can't beat the price either. User review by amk1 – How this spa got a 9.3 rating is beyond me. This place is for people who think Red Lobster is fine dining. The massage rooms are so small that the massage therapist can barely move. My massage was the worst I have ever had. It's like she had no idea what she was doing. Not relaxing or enjoyable at all. Better to spend more money for a quality place. I do not recommend this spa to anyone.
Mediocre Facial – I went to DB because their prices seemed good and it is near my office. Not very pampering at all. The extraction was good, but there was barely any massaging and the facialist left me for a very long time with the mask (additional cost) on. I wouldn't return.
