I received a email with an account number for an account I didn’t open. I’ve emailed their help three times and called twice. First phone call included a 25 minute wait and then the call was disconnected. The immediate callback included a 45 minute wait. Dennis answered and was helpful enough and offered a simple solution. I have had an account with Equity Trust for a very long time, over 15 years . I usually only have one investment at a time for them to manage. Minimal work for them. Create the 5 year investment, manage the collection and then close it. Often they have been great to work with then at other times their responsiveness is very poor. I submitted an account correction on 7/31 and I am still waiting as of 8/11 for the correction to be made. Summary: Account type: IRA custodial Metals Administered for 2 years Yearly fee: $250 Total fees (including yearly, distribution and other fees): $800 Length of time to "cash-out" & close account: FOUR MONTHS Calls needed: over 5 (each at least 10 minutes on hold) Details: A distribution request was made on 4/1/23. Since this was an "IRA Metals" account, the metals held by Equity trust were supposed to go to the metals dealer for sale. I have worked with Equity Trust for many years with various investments. Initially, I was very happy with their service. In my experience, their service has progressively gotten slower. At one point in the early days of my experience with ETC, their sales rep talked me into paying extra for their “Gold” service stating it was much faster and gives gold members priority. If you are looking for a company to handle your precious metal IRA I would differently not use Equity Institutional. This companies customer service on shipping precious metal is totally unacceptable. I sent a distribution form in to sell some of my wife's precious metals in her IRA to Kitco. I submitted the request to Equity on June 12th and here it is 17 days later with no notice of shipping the metals. I truly believe Equity Trust is the best self directed IRA company out there! Their website is fantastic and it makes it super easy to do business!
