Many believe that Abe Doumar, founder of Doumar's Cones & Barbecue, gave the world its first ice cream cone. Doumar was a traveling salesman retailing paperweights at the famous St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. When an ice cream seller exhausted his stock of paper dishes to hold the ice creams, he got a nearby waffle maker to roll his waffles into cones and thus invented the waffle cone. RecommendedWe are in Norfolk on vacation and were told by locals to check this place out. So glad we did. Tonight Ashley was our car hop and hooked up up with great sandwiches, limeade (so refreshing!), shakes and T-shirts! If you are in the area you have to visit.

if you go to VA beach and don't make the trip up to Norfolk you have missed out on the best pork barbecue on the East Coast. A family run business from day one until today, they have it all from the grill to the icecream. Thanks Doumars!

Doumar’s has the best BBQ in town! Love the atmosphere and staff! Tonight, we ordered slice BBQ and a Taylor Pork Roll sandwich. We had curb service; just like you did in the 50’s!!! Great evening in Norfolk! 👍👍🇺🇸
