Many believe that Abe Doumar, founder of Doumar's Cones & Barbecue, gave the world its first ice cream cone. Doumar was a traveling salesman retailing paperweights at the famous St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. When an ice cream seller exhausted his stock of paper dishes to hold the ice creams, he got a nearby waffle maker to roll his waffles into cones and thus invented the waffle cone. Born and raised in Norfolk, Doumars is THE place to go. Burgers are good, the Taylor pork roll is good but the BBQ sandwich with coleslaw is my favorite. Don't forget the fries and have some ice cream in the fresh made daily cones. Or a banana shake (yum).��
Yesterday was the first time eating here. I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, and limeade. It was delicious! It reminded me of a place that was in Ca called Tommy’s Burgers. I didn’t have any ice cream because it doesn’t agree with me. However, I did buy a cone to try it and I loved it!!
What a shame! Have been to Doumars many times over the years and the food and service has always been excellent. Today the food lacked flavor, the service was beyond horrendous and the entire experience makes me think twice before ever returning. Wait staff was aloof and short with us. I’ll be sure to mention this lackluster experience to any out of town guests and encourage them to steer clear.

My only time I visited here was my last day being on the East Coast, September 25th 2017. Great food, wonderful service. Fast and efficient. Thank you for the great memories.
Wasn't impressed . Ice Cream had freezer burn and cone tasted stale . was in the area and decided to try it since its been around forever and people rave about it. I wouldn't drive far to eat there ..
First time eating there. Food was good and came out at a reasonable rate. It was lunch time so they were on the busy side. Not the best idea an hour before show starts but we made it. Will definitely give it another try!
The burgers were perfect, fries were excellent, icecream was amazing... All around Doumars was an incredible experience!
This place is so retro and cute. They come to your car and take your order. The food is super yummy and the shakes are amazing
