About this business
Many believe that Abe Doumar, founder of Doumar's Cones & Barbecue, gave the world its first ice cream cone. Doumar was a traveling salesman retailing paperweights at the famous St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. When an ice cream seller exhausted his stock of paper dishes to hold the ice creams, he got a nearby waffle maker to roll his waffles into cones and thus invented the waffle cone. BBQ with a limeade...my go-to lunch for decades! Too bad I only get this when I visit home.
Visiting VA for the first time. Going on Guy Fieri's recommendation... I was not impressed. Waitress (car-hopper) obviously didn't want to be there. Minced Pork had no sauce although I asked for extra sauce. Food was bland & fries soggy. #MaybeNextTime
love this place! Reminds me of my Dad’s restaurant back in the 50’s and really brought me back. We had the pork sandwich and real cherry coke which I️ haven’t had since I️ was a kid. A must stop while in Norfolk! Also they invented the ice cream cone which I️ found particularly cool and delicious!!!
A good place to eat but the service is horrible. I came with a friend and two nanny kids and the older gentleman made it seem like we were such a bother. The way he talked to me and the kids were unacceptable. Then my friend and I wanted to change out our drinks and he told us grudgingly that he knew we wouldn’t like it. I wanna return because the food is good but I will move if I get him as a waiter again.

Part of what makes Norfolk Great! What sets Doumar's apart from other places is family. Owned and operated by the Doumar family for over 100 years. My favorite time of year is when the eggnog milkshakes go on sale.
We love Doumar’s! Our family is there at least twice a week. Thank you to #5 who always takes care of us. She is friendly and makes our runs to Doumar’s even better. �
