My 11 year old son was brought to Children's Mercy on November 19, 2015 from University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Twelve days earlier Blake was life-flighted from The Lake of the Ozarks after suffering a severe traumatic brain injury in a boating accident. When he arrived at CMH, Blake wasn't speaking or able to move the left side of his body due to a stroke in the center of his brain. What a horrible horrible place. My wife and I were in the middle of fostering a child who has multiple medical issues including s.b. And a trach. At the very end of out training they decided that they no longer wanted us to foster this child because we hadn't been there in a few days. And the reason for that is our kids had just ended school for the year and couldn't Bring them with us. My 14 month-old son had surgery here this morning. I was blown away by the kindness and support of Dr. Jensen and all the team who helped us. The pre-surgery, surgery, recovery and EVERYBODY was first-rate. As nervous and scared first-time parents we SO appreciated the patience, compassion, and above-and-beyond service we received. I won't forget it.
