In the early 1950's, mill worker Hysen Chelo purchased a piece of property as an investment. Hysen's four children thought that land investments were unwise and envisioned a restaurant on that site to support their growing families. Thus, Chelo's Hometown Bar & Grille was started in 1955. Went on a Saturday for lunch. I had the Mediterranean chicken sandwich plate which was very good. The service was also good. In general however I thought the menu was a little pricey for a big chain, pub type of restaurant.
Chelos is always a safe bet. We were in the area and they had many choices to eat, but I had to pick chelos becuase I was hangry and knew they wouldn't disappoint. Though it was my first time to this chelos, I knew. It was greqt, food, service and atmosphere.
Will visiting Rhode Island , I can honestly say this place served the best food I'd eaten for our entire trip! Everything was fresh, and our Bartender Beth was super nice and provided excellent service! Super affordable and offered so many different options ! If I ever return to RI I will eat here again!
Seated at 2:40. Ordered food off the lunch menu, tool so long to take order and put it in that the server came to the table and said the 3 pm menu was over. So we had to get menus again and put in a different order. It's 3:25 and now we still have no food.... restaurant is less than a third full. So, what's the problem with the service?
Was here visiting from Rochester NY. Food and service were awesome. Would highly recommend this restaurant!
The red chowder was very good, but the clam cakes were a disappointment.
Had our daughters first communion celebration here today 5/7/17 and it was amazing. From the venue the food and our host Tom we made the right choice. Thank You Chelos!!! It was a hit for our family.
