We detoured from our route to South Carolina on Friday for a late lunch. Had the pulled pork bbq. My family has had its own bbq business since the 70's - so I'm awfully particular. But my dad sent me the article about this place knowing we visit Asheville often. He said we needed to try and provide a full report. Short answer: I was impressed. Fantastic food, great atmosphere and friendly bartender. What more could you ask for?!? Looking forward to another visit when I'm in town.
I'm mixed on this review - beverages were not good yet fried okra was outstanding!! Vinegar sauce wasn't my favorite but the best white barbecue sauce ever, barbecue was lean, tender and moist. Sides were not well seasoned - either no seasoning on the hush puppies or too much pepper in the Lima beans. As a native I love the renovation and their preservation of significant history to that part of Asheville.
Great pulled pork! Whole hog, Lotta flavor, the woodsmoke helps the meat speak for itself, not over seasoned. Chicken sandwich is special! Nice side offerings too. Collards, butter/limas, and mashed potatoes are my favorite! BADASS homemade pies and cookies. For lunch, go a little later and avoid crowds. 1:30-2:30........you'll be good
Simply the best place to hangout with family and with friends.
Went for lunch today. The food was incredible as well as the atmosphere. The chicken sandwich was delicious the pulled pork as well. Some of the best hush puppies I've ever had. Great collards. And the pimento cheese appetizer was one of the best most creative apps I've had in a long while. I can't wait to try their dinner menu!!!
This place is incredible! My husband and I shared the ribs, pulled pork platter, and chicken sandwich. We were super hungry! Wow! Buxton Hall delivered! The pork platter was perfectly smokey. We had it with the coleslaw and fries. The coleslaw went so well with the pork! Just the right amount of sweet and salt. The chicken sandwich is the best I have ever had! The ribs were also delicious! We travel often and love to stop anywhere from roadside food to high end places. You can't miss Buxton Hall! Two thumbs up!
This review is purely of the service since I never got to try the food. Attempted to try for dinner around 6pm, and as expected, the place was slammed. Ordered our food and then proceeded to wait for an hour before we finally gave up on it. We watched several other people who had taken their seats after us have their food delivered, so I am still unsure as to what held ours up.
