The tavern that rose from two fires to be the oldest restaurant in all of the town, is worth going to see based on History alone. The food, too, is a delicious range of traditional, home-cooked fare, made from scratch. The buffet menu offers a different variety of dishes each day and the numerous pies for dessert are a truly mouthwatering end to the meal. There is an event hall that seats up to 150 people. You can also pick up a couple of souvenirs to remember the trip from the small shop before you leave.

This place had been on my bucket list for 8 years until I finally made it there today on my way from Chicago to Montana! I learned about them from the Netflix documentary "Spinning Plates." This place is truly special. The people are so lovely and welcoming and the owner is a gracious and down to earth guy. Always pleasant staff. And of course the owners are great people.
Definitely a hidden gem tucked away in the hills of eastern Iowa on The Great River Road. The food was exceptionally good and reasonably priced. The restaurant is clean, warm and inviting and the staff welcomes you in like you’re a local.
