Beacon Drive Inn

About this business

Considered a regional landmark and ranked as the second biggest drive-in restaurant in the country, The Beacon is a must-see for visitors looking to eat local comfort food. This old-fashioned drive-in is famous among South Carolinians for their friendly service, Beacon sweet tea (largest single seller of sweet tea in the country) and deliciously unhealthy menu staples like the chili cheese dog, onion rings, hush puppies, BBQ plates and fried fish baskets. The Beacon has everything you could want out of a Southern restaurant;... read more

I am originally from Spartanburg and lived in TX from 1998 until 2008. Then moved to MT in 2008. Will be moving back to home in 2 years. First stop will be the Beacon. I remember when the Beacon had no inside seating. Had to sit in car and curb hops took our order. That was back in the 60s to 70s. Lots of great memories at the Beacon. Going home baby!

I have been going to the Beacon since I was a child growing up. That was 40 years ago. Now I bring my children when we travel that way. Just detoured for my plenty. My boys loved the experience. Jerry was great for letting me take a video to show my friends what they missed.

Food was terrible, place is nasty from time you look at front door. Instant tea in the south yuk snd sell it by 1/2 gallon and store in heat and big containers on floor. Assemble line for food not hot. Guy fiery proved me wrong. While in there a ceiling tile fell with leaking roof. They need to do some repairs and seriously elbow grease.

It wasn't the food, it was an associate working behind the counter. Needs intense customer service training. We left without getting our food
