Beacon Drive Inn

About this business

Considered a regional landmark and ranked as the second biggest drive-in restaurant in the country, The Beacon is a must-see for visitors looking to eat local comfort food. This old-fashioned drive-in is famous among South Carolinians for their friendly service, Beacon sweet tea (largest single seller of sweet tea in the country) and deliciously unhealthy menu staples like the chili cheese dog, onion rings, hush puppies, BBQ plates and fried fish baskets. The Beacon has everything you could want out of a Southern restaurant;... read more

I was raised loving the beacon since my grand daddy Author Johnson retired from there and my uncle Charlie Wiggleton probably will too and it was my summer job shout out to my aunt Flossy but I will always love the beacon for memories cause the food will never be John White Quality again

Never again !!! The tea is not the good sweet Beacon tea that I remember. I also would like to know who is the health inspector that is getting his pocket padded. I have never seen a place with the ceiling peeling like that be allowed to stay open. Just glad there wasn't any in my food.

The Beacon is a bright legend which must never dim. It is a symbol of home away from home for area residents, college students, and uncounted alumni. Long live The Beacon!

I went to the Beacon at least once a week during my entire childhood. I moved away when I turned 20, but every time I go home I also go to the Beacon. I introduce someone new to the Beacon experience whenever possible. The Beacon is a part of my childhood, a part of my best memories, and a part of me.
