About this business

When a restaurant is co-owned by celeb-chef Agostino Sciandri and Hollywood heavyweights such as Robert De Niro and Ridley Scott, you know it is exclusive. Ago is an Italian trattoria straight out of the book—wooden furniture, a terracotta floor, and cypress trees recreate the magic of the Mediterranean, while the menu boasts of such lip-smacking fare as chicken cooked in herbs, baby rack of lamb with roast potatoes, and whitefish with spinach and sautéed artichoke. The wine-list is impeccable, the ambiance unbe... read more

Citysearch Editorial Review – This Tinseltown fave still banks on its big-name backers (Robert De Niro and the brothers Weinstein), but it's the food and scene that keeps the tables filled. Like the clientele, it's as elegantly caszh as an Armani suit. And like Chef Agostino Sciandri, it's authentic Italian. Anyone who's ever eaten Italian will recognize the menu, but that's beside the point. Industry honchos can vicariously relive their Italian childhoods by night, even if they've never set foot outside California. Bring on... read more

I'll Pass thanx! – My friends and I had reservations for 7:30pm for 4 and we were told that it would be ok if we did not get there all at the same time. They would not sit the first two people of our party, who arrived early, at a table for 4. They gave them a table for 2 and once the other 2 arrived we were given the option of sitting in the back, which defeats the point of going to this happening restaurant. The 2 that got there late ended up going to the restaurant next door to eat after they would not sit us down and fou... read more

pass – a very LA crowd---in the bad sense. pasta was not cooked properly---literally crunchy not al dente and the sauce was WAY too salty. raviolis were good but not worth the trip to come back to this restaurant ever again. was very, very surprised considering the people backing the restaurant. pretentious atmosphere. this restaurant thinks more of itself than it actually is. one trip was enough to know that it was lackluster, would NEVER come back here to eat ever again. agree with the other review that hostess/es were med... read more

Celebs and Plebs – Thursday night is supposed to be celeb night, but all we saw were plebs in this crowded, noisy restaurant. At 6PM, we called to make a reservation for 8PM that night, but the receptionist could only offer us a table in "the small room." While it's a cozy, quiet room in the back, it's also SIBERIA. If you've come to people watch, you'll miss all the action. The tiny bar was three deep, and we ordered delicious peach martiniis until we could be seated. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait long. Too bad the fo... read more

Delicious gnocchi! – My fiance and I visited Ago Saturday, July 5th. We had reservations (strongly recommended) and waited about fifteen minutes to be seated. The server seemed rushed, but nice. The food came very quickly! I had the gnocchi with alfredo sauce, and my fiance had the veal ravioli. Their prices are very reasonable for pasta. (Our entrees were less than $20 per). The atmosphere is very busy and quite loud. Not romantic/elegant. Only saw expensive cars rolling through the parking lot, and I agree with other revie... read more

Can't Get Into Luques . . . – Been many times. A consistently steady performer that does not qualify as fine dining but does qualify as a great place to frequent. Always busy, especially later in the evening. A solid 7 (maybe 8 on some nights) across the board and that's not bad.

They Wouldn't Serve That In Italy – Ago is apparently the hip place in town to schmooze and make the big deals . . . obviously all those wannabe producers are blubbering and blustering so loudly and so much that they don't notice the quality of the food. Ago is a crowded three ring circus where you can't even hear the folks seated at your own table. The food maybe reminiscient of the hometown fare of its owners but the quality is lackluster and uninspiring. The tomatoes in my cabrese had a hint of green unripedness to them a... read more

Definitely for the scenesters – Ago's food is excellent...thank God because you can't have a conversation with whomever you've decided to go there. The atmosphere is energetic and lively, and you definitely feel like you're "where it's at"; you also feel like everyone is looking around to see what celebrity might be there. Though celeb-hunting is sort of the fun of this place. The service is friendly and attentive, which is unusual for such a happening place. The salmon I had was delicious and my friend thoroughly enjoyed he... read more

Great food...posers everywhere! – Loved the food, loved the service. Had a seared ahi, pizza and the white fish and it was all superb. The white fish, especially. The menu isn't expensive unless you stray from the pastas. My brother wasn't impressed with his seafood risotta but the soft shelled crab salad was amazing. Seemed like everyone there wanted to look and act famous but they weren't. If you can get over the high "vanity factor" at Ago, it's worth the food.
