About this business

When a restaurant is co-owned by celeb-chef Agostino Sciandri and Hollywood heavyweights such as Robert De Niro and Ridley Scott, you know it is exclusive. Ago is an Italian trattoria straight out of the book—wooden furniture, a terracotta floor, and cypress trees recreate the magic of the Mediterranean, while the menu boasts of such lip-smacking fare as chicken cooked in herbs, baby rack of lamb with roast potatoes, and whitefish with spinach and sautéed artichoke. The wine-list is impeccable, the ambiance unbe... read more

If I'm lying I'm dying... – Holiday dinner. 7 close girlfriends. Four of us arrived late. Offered to wait for second table as first group already seated. They insisted we squeeze with first group so remain together. Before apps ordered, tray of red wine spilled down side of my head. Wearing cream cashmere sweater. Matching wrap on chair. Contents of handbag soaked. Clearly needed to go home, rinse hair, change, maybe make it back for dessert. Returned. Gave waiter/spiller hug to alleviate his embarrassment. Nearby diners act... read more

Overrated and Bad Service – After hearing great things about this place, and reading all the glowing reviews, a foodie friend and I made reservations at 7:30pm, and didn't get seated until 8:15pm. After our crazy 45 minute wait, we were finally seated -- in the worst possible spot in the restaurant, right in front of the kitchen entrance. There was so much foot traffic, my purse kept falling off the back of my chair whenever anyone walked by. Loud staff were obnoxious and the food took forever. The food itself was nice, but ... read more

Perfection! – I visited Ago with 3 friends for a mini-girls night. We had a fabulous time! Our table wasnt quite ready when we arrived for our 9:30 dinner reservation, but the scene at the bar made the time fly! We started with a peach martini (compliments of a generous and super friendly local) and with dinner we selected the least expensive ($55) bottle of pinot noir and both were delicious! While at the bar we mingled with friendly, intelligent, and over-all beautiful people. The service was impeccable and the food was im... read more

great place – A must go in la. We got a wonderful recommendation from a new friend we met in hollywood and it was fabulous. Delicious arugula salad and the whitefish is wonderful. It's also not terribly expensive.

Well worth the money – This place makes it worth your money as far as food and service is concerned and it's really not so expensive to begin with. You should try weekdays instead of weekends (better chances of running into more of them). I'm not Hollywood-crazed but it's simply just fun to be sitting next to someone you've seen on TV. If you have out-of-state visitors, this is the one restaurant you should take them to. On the down side, even with reservations you're bound to wait. As you can imagine, every time someone "fa... read more

Simplistic Excellence – Ago proves that sometimes, the simplest flavors are what make an excellent meal. Barely noticeable, I missed it twice, Ago sits on the corner of La Cienga and Melrose. The menu is composed of typical Italian fare. The antipastas and soups are nothing out of the ordinary either. However, this is where Ago shines. I had the grilled polenta and burrata (fresh mozzarella with a creamy center) for an appetizer, spinach and ricotta ravioli as a pasta, and the veal chop with balsamic vinegar sauce. Every ent... read more
