Oh, how I wish I had done more research before adding ADT. From a few friends, they liked ADT based upon setup and usage. Cancelling is a whole different scenario, and everyone I know who set up with them has changed their mind since cancelling. Good installation and technicians. Horrible back office. Collections dont coordinate with customer service and they use different systems so collections cant see cust serv status. They just hound you for payment. Customer service said repeatedly they would look into an issue and call back. They never did. Be careful to agree or sign for your install charges.
My company attempted to use ADT for our restaurant about a year ago. The system never worked properly and after several attempts with several technicians to get it to work, they decided they could not and cancelled our contract. They said we would receive a full refund and they removed the system. Not only did we not ever receive a refund, they are still charging us for the system to this day. ADT/Protection 1 has failed to close one of four accounts after initial request of closure 6/18/2019. 3/4 were closed. It's 2/11/2020, one account still open with an outstanding balance of $8,340.88 according to *** Why? When asked for all final bills to close? Fraudulent conduct and misrepresentations by Defenders. I have spent countless hours on the phone with their representatives who are condescending, rude, and unhelpful. They are violating the law, and their technician signed my name onto a contract when I was not present. Now, I have asked for a copy of the "verification" call wherein I allegedly verified the contract. I never spoke to ANYONE. I got an email with "ADT" all over it so assumed I was calling ADT. Not until I hung up and got a notice that they did a hard inquiry on my credit without authorization is when I realized their name was "Defender Security". The person I spoke to on the phone was real good at the jargon. I set up a "free" consult with someone to come to my house. She wanted a credit card, I thought this was weird. Worst company! I was with them for 5 years, never had a late payment! I decided to cancel ADT in November for 2019 and get another company instead, so the rep on the phone told me to try out that company for 3 months and she won't charge me for keeping ADT on hold for 3 months so I can make sure I'm happy with that other company. FYI So you may actually not be receiving real monitoring...Below is a complaint I sent to Protection1/ADT, and their reply was only to repeat as if they can't read, "you didn't let us know your number changed". I think that ADT and its contractors are beyond reprehensible. I am building a house after not owning for several years and responded to an email to get a quote for new service.
