Last Saturday, I decided to renew my membership with Zipcar. After I have been approved, I checked on line for cars available in my area. I tried days ahead, even weeks ahead. There were no cars available anywhere. I called and expressed my frustration with them. They said, there is never any cars available in my area. Its always booked. Third time in three months the car I rented for a day of errands on a Saturday is not in place, and this time they couldnt even get a car nearby to replace. Absolutely never using them again. Completely unreliable.
The cars are okay, but they have horrible customer service. I booked a car today and cancelled my reservation before the time that would cost a cancellation fee. When I cancelled, it said the cost to cancel was 0. So then I look at my account and I was still charged for the reservation, but I was getting a refund. The refund takes 2 to 3 days and since this is the weekend, I guess I won't get my money for a few business days. I called customer service to ask why they couldn't just reverse the charge. A bunch of crooks. Do not lets them have your credit card information. They will drain your account.
Relatively new user to **********************. After quite a few rides, I received an email that my account was being closed due activity that was deemed disruptive. Ive reread the community agreement and all the fine print many times and still could not find out what rule I may have broken. I have been a zipcar member for ages. This year 2023my monthly membership is being taxed (zipcar explains it as operating costs). So my $50 monthly fee is $54.50. When I make a reservation I am taxed again. Im being taxed twiceis this even legal? I am curious to hear back from someone on this matter. Thanks.
Just make sure you never travel without the physical Zipcard. I was running errands, walk out of the store and all of a sudden the car is "offline," thus locked and I am unable to get in. I call customer service thinking they can unlock it remotely. They cannot. The guy said he was going to call Roadside Assistance, put me on hold and then ultimately hung up. The worst experience with customer service. Card and app. Not only once but twice that paying a membership and Im not able to gain access to a vehicle. App didnt work or the card to access the vehicle. After being a member for over 7 years I decided to cancel my membership. Cars are filthy and the company itself is irresponsible. Would suggest using another rental company even if its more expensive.
I have been a member with Zipcar and used its car several times until I got involved in a minor accident. Then they just suspend my account and keep charging me monthly membership fees! They don't even want to guarantee that they'll refund me. And every time you email them you always get the exact same answer, which is useless. So save you some money and time and don't use this app!
