Westar just recently merged with Evergy. We have had no problems with Westar beyond the occasional blackout during the summer, which was restored within 30 minutes. There have been six blackouts within the past three days.l, averaging 3-4 hours to get the power back on. I don't understand how a company can manage itself so poorly and still be acquiring other companies in mergers. Shameful and disgraceful.
If I could give no stars I would. Since the merger with KCP&L, our electric charges have been more expensive. My bill was due yesterday and I had every intention of paying it today, but they shut off our service without any notification. I received an email from Evergy this morning stating my bill was past due and that I could be responsible for any late fees. There was no indication of disconnection of service. My mother is 75, living alone and woke up to her electricity being off on a Friday morning. She contacted KCP&L through their automated system around 10:30 and never received a call back the entire day. She attempted to find a way to contact them through some kind of after-hours number, but if you lose your power on a weekend, then you're simply out of luck - there is no way to reach a live person. this place is a total rip off you change everything in your house to save on energy cost and the bill goes up! the meter reader aparently cant read the meter right every month there is no option to choose your electric provider so you are stuck being *** *****by this company
Meter reader entered privacy fence gate without knocking and dogs met him at the gate. When the wife came out she witnessed the reader kicking our dogs in the faces and head. Kcpl apoligized and scheduled to install an ami meter to read online the following friday between 8am and noon. Called at 6:40 pm and could get no answers why none showed up. Stayed home all day waiting.
I am ready to equate KCP&L's billing practices as a scam artist! I have been paying over inflated bills for a year now; not a guess on my part as I read my meter and know exactly what the kilowatt hours are each month. Yet, every time the "end read" number on my bill is more than the meter actually was. I have talked to a supervisor in the past but the matter was not resolved. The Representatives they have working in the evening are some of the most Rude,Sarcastic Reps I have ever dealt with through any Company!! They need to teach them some Respect! And 2 months to turn off an outside light is an extremely long time while KCP&L charge 15.00 per month for said light! What a scam!
I have had positive experiences with customer service representatives in the past with Westar, but this situation refuted all of those. For a newcomer paying electricity bills ( I am a student in college ) the details of what each action entails on the Westar website is not clear.
