I was so shocked at the lack of family care on floor 8. No reflection on the staff, however, the system is extremely flawed. The family lounge in 8G has absolutely no recliners... but that is because they dont want you to stay. People are not all the same, some need their loved ones close by... i wont go into my soapbox here... BUT i must say, the family lounge in 8D had several recliners. We wanted to borrow a couple recliners (keep in mind for 4 days there was no one in that lounge because they have private rooms). Our 80 ... read more

RUDE EMPLOYEES AT UPMC NORTHWEST
Be more considerate of people.
A medical mistake by UPMC doctors killed my mother. There are almost no doctors available in that facility after 5p.m. only E.R. doctors. Doctors who are paged do not answer the pages. My sister, because of a UPMC clerical error, was omitted from the transplant list for an entire year, while desperately waiting for a transplant.
My mother passed away July 2 nd after 9 days in the hospital. I have been there many time and I was very pleased with the ER. Everyone was nice, engaging and helpful. From there we went to the 12 th floor and again everyone was wonderful . We ended up on the 5 th floor and I can say enough good things about this group of people. They went above and beyond for me and my mom. We all knew she was dying and they got me a comfy chair to sleep in. They asked me if I needed anything. The ingornace of hospital staff to recognize that a natural food like poppyseeds can cause a false positive in a drug test is mind boggling. Not sure what medical program staff attended, but they need to ask for a refund. Disgraceful that innocent parents could face separation from their newborn because of this medical center's ignorance.
