The Tavern restaurant in downtown Abingdon is a step back in time. Our beautiful old building was built in 1779 and is the oldest of Abingdon's historic structures. In its original inception, it was an overnight inn for stagecoach travelers, housing famous guests such as Henry Clay, King Louis Philippe of France, and President Andrew Jackson. Food and service was fabulous. The steaks were so tender you could cut them with a fork.
Love the crab cakes and chicken saltimbocca! One of my favorites.
Everything was extremely mediocre - the food , the service , the drinks. Vegetables were served cold, crab cakes small, dry , over priced for what was served. Salads limp, small, boring tasting and looking. Prime rib not prepared as requested. Staff completely indifferent. Not the Tavern we had visited several times a few years ago. Will go to the Barter again , but definitely not stop at The Tavern,
