The reviews I read before booking were basically correct. You get a room in a somwehat tired hotel in a great location. There is no restaurant or bar and the front desk does not appear to be staffed (the front door is open 24/7 and there are some mobile numbers on the desk that you can phone to contact someone so that you can check in). The room itself was clean and perfectly acceptable, the main odd thing being that apart from a bottle of liquid hand soap there were no other toiletries. I booked two rooms for two nights at the Queen’s Hotel in Shetland, paying a premium rate and expecting a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, my experience fell short in several key areas. On arrival, there were no staff on duty, and we waited around 20 minutes before being checked in. The overnight desk staff were also unhelpful. Most awful hotel experience we've ever had! If you want to spend £179 on a hotel where you get given 3 numbers at reception to phone to try and get hold of someone to check you in, manager finally appears after waiting 30 mins, place stinks of mould and damp, shabby, tired, dated, mattress like bag of spanners, windows painted shut, yellowing old bedding, defensive owners then knock yourself out - this is the place for you. Place was in need of either a full refurbishment or knocked down. Over priced for an extremely poor quality room. The entire place is very dated and run down. I would suggest staying here as an absolute last resort.
