The Pit

About this business

The Pit offers some of the best barbecue in Raleigh. Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

I visited this establishment for the first time on Feb 11, 2017... it was a truly wonderful dining experience! The food was amazing... from the meats I had to the sides, all were delicious! I live 90 miles away just outside of Greensboro but have a kid at NC State and will be back with him in the very near future!!

The pulled pork was on point! Definitely order it over the chopped version. Great meal!

BBQ tofu/soy nuggets are amazing! Awesome vegan option that is so close to bbq chicken it's scary!

We had reservations for 7. We we seated on time (packed because of NCSU basketball game). We were placed In a booth which was small for 7 adults. Three of us got BBQ turkey, but it Was COVERED with hot pepper flakes to the point that we were not able to eat any of the main meal. Ribs were great. Wish they would warn you if it is heavy with red pepper flakes. Expense meal to not be able to eat it.

I had such an awesome time here. The service was excellent and the food was just as great! We waited no more than 6 minutes for our food after ordering. It was my first time here and I will definitely be back again.

Beyond the hostess being a grump everyone else provided outstanding service. Love when a service is knowledgeable about menu AND beer recos. Food was yummy - decent BBQ but fav was the pit-smoked wings and soul roll apps.

They were out of Baby Back Ribs and the Carolina Ribs were ok... Beans were mediocre. Service was great. Could not believe they charged me $9 for a Wicked Weed IPA draft!

Great food! I had the brisket and it was so tender and delicious. I highly recommend the brisket. My boyfriend had the ribs and they were good as well.
