The Pit

4.2

About this business

The Pit offers some of the best barbecue in Raleigh. Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

Delicious! From the biscuits & hush puppies to the ribs, brisket and pulled pork - even the sides were out of this world. The Pit is my new favorite BBQ spot.

Must try if you are within a days drive. The Chopped BBQ is what other food should be compared to.

Was in town for the night and asked some locals where to go for BBQ. They all said the pit. I will chalk it up to being a Monday after thanksgiving so maybe they were working through the last of reheated product as happens with que. chopped barbecue was bland and tasted like it had been steamed. Brisket was dry and crumbly, no smoke flavor. The ribs were ok but over cooked, bone fell right out. Regardless of the saying fall off the bone, this is not a good thing. Biscuit, butter, and hush puppies were good.

Had great service, got biscuits and hash puppies. Then got the brisket which you didnt need a knife for (probably why they give you a butter knife) and had some pulled pork. The bbq sauces were exquisite.

The eastern nc bbq is the best I've had in the Capitol, coming from an eastern nc girl. Collards are decent, Brunswick stew not so much. Will come back!

Service was excellent, atmosphere was good. Barbecue was a total letdown. The barbecue ribs were tasteless and tough with the exception of the barbecue sauce. My son-in-law had the chopped pork and reported the same.
