About this business

As a replica of Bent's Fort, it's a cultural crossroads on the historic Santa Fe Trail. This area institution, which has been reviewed in the New York Times, serves up southwestern fare to everyone from lounging locals to heads of state including President Clinton during 1997's economic summit. Scrumptious servings of buffalo and elk tantalize the tongue. More traditional fare like salmon, filet mignon and even a vegetarian plate is also available. Open Monday to Friday at 5:30pm and at 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

A 5 Star restaurant. One of the best southwestern places to dine. The meat is buffalo not beef. I highly recommend the Prickly pear coolers!

Elk medallions. Prickly pear Margi yummy. A little pricey but I’d do it again.

My husband and I look forward to the food week deals every year. We highly recommend getting the teriyaki quail and bison sirloin. They're amazing! We had many different "seasonal veggies" that have always been delicious! And the fort potatoes are delightful! We also recommend the chipotle honey dressing for the salad. It's a well rounded flavor that goes well with all of the flavors in the salad.

Business response:

Overview A unique restaurant. Very scenic with views of the mountains and the city of Denver along with an Old Western and Native Indian theme and fire pit. However, way too pricey and a bit like a tourist trap. It’s best to go in the summer to enjoy the view and during lunch when it’s likely cheaper. Like a Sales Ploy Interesting menu that does not appeal to a broad audience but that’s part of the allure. Waiter handed us an appetizer and drink menu first. They assume you will eat appetizers that cost up to $17 and non alco... read more

Thank you for your review, Irene; we appreciate your feedback, and your decision to celebrate your husband's special day with us. We're disappointed to learn that your experience did not meet expectations, and apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with your credit card-issued gift card. While we do not currently offer lunch, we hope you will consider joining us again. Perhaps this summer for drinks and/or dessert on our patio.

Food was definitely tasty, but don’t know if it was really worth the prices they are charging. Good service.

Well, since you asked. We were pretty underwhelmed. Not like The Fort used to be. We were crammed in a corner, no view, average service severely undercooked steak. It was a special event for us that did not turn out very special. Well give it another shot, but this visit wasn’t one to remember. Not flaming you, but please do better next time.

We’ve lived in Denver for 22 years and this was our first visit. Our experience blew our expectations away! The service was among the best we’ve had and the food and atmosphere too. The hostess area is a bit lacking so I wasn’t sure at first, but once seated we were all in. One of my favorite touches was the smell of a wood burning fire while we dined. Not sure if it was from the near by fireplace, or artificial like the candles on our table, but I know I’ll be disappointed if we go in the summer and that smell isn’t there! ... read more
