About this business

The Bookstore Speakeasy is your portal to the 1920s. Behind a nondescript black door bearing only the words "The Bookstore," is a lively bar that hosts a jazz band several nights a week. The decor is in keeping with the theme, featuring vintage accents. Creatively mixed drinks are named with just as much imagination (try the Shirley Temple of Doom).

Definitely worth visiting and we hope to return. The ambiance is wonderful, a 1920's vibe throughout. The food is fantastic and the menu offers a change from the usual fare with some classics as well. I highly recommend Amy's Pickles, made at home by one of the staff, you wouldn't think pickled veggies could taste so good. (She should be selling jars to take home!) The drinks are great and you really have to check out the flaming bowls of punch - that can't be missed!

Great cocktails and live jazz. What more could you ask for? Ok the ribeye I ordered was a bit bland. But a bit of butter, salt and pepper cured that. I live in DC and don't own a car, but this place is worth a rental for a short road trip.

Fun place, amazing drinks, cool vibe. Make sure to read the rules of the Bookstore! The place is on the small size so don't expect a lot of elbow room between tables and it can get noisy. Love it when there is live music. Would be a 5 star rating but very disappointed they took the delicious clam dish off the menu. Bring it back PLEASE!!!
