The first time my wife and I came to the Yorkshire Dales, a large part of the reason for coming here on holiday was go eat chef Michael Wignall’s food. We had eaten at The Latymer in Pennyhill Park hotel many years ago when he was head chef there and I had also done a cookery class with him where he was modest yet taught us some interesting techniques such as smoking fish and making honeycomb He and his wife have found an idyllic corner of the Dales to set up his restaurant and burgeoning hotel. Delicious food and a wonderful experience but I review based upon the price range. Clearly the food is great but few courses missed the mark. The carrot course being far too complex to fit the entire flavour onto a fork, other courses being unremarkable but the eel was absolutely incredible. Service, overall good but unfortunately some of the courses were explained too fast then instantly walked away before any questions could be asked. Sommelier was excellent.
