They help us keep what Insurance and Pension we have by fighting The Texas Legislature. Without them we would not have anyone fighting for us

It is a voice for retired teachers and a way for us to volunteer and make a difference in our communities after we retire. I enjoy meeting other teachers that are retired and I enjoy making a difference at the state level on the public relations committee.

Tim Lee does an excellent job of keeping retired teachers informed. Now, all that is needed is for the state legislature to hear what he has to say!

Teachers even after retirement have to stay actively involved just to keep their retirement from being "downsized" by not keeping up with inflation.

I do hope that TRTA is continuing the fight for the repeal of WEP and GPO. The people that were able to slip thru the loophole and now draw full TRS retirement annuities, and full Social Security are riding on the "Gravy Train". So unfair to the rest of us. Yes, I paid in all of my quarters prior to paying into TRS, yet I am penalized due to WEP and GPO. Any hope in sight? Is TRTA actively continuing the fight for a repeal? If it is repealed, it should be retroactive to our elig. date.

I'm really surprised that more retired teachers are not protesting the new horrible insurance we were forced into, Humana. Also, surprised that TRTA is not involved in any protest on behalf of the retired teachers. I've been communicating with Governor Abbott and Dan Patrick with little hope of getting anything done. It's sad that we are being treated like this. I understand that AARP has a good plan. I'm going to look into it. If that falls through I guess I'll go back to the Medicare plan which has a lower premium and dedu... read more
