We represent the only association who exclusively represents TX public education retirees. Our Director, Tim Lee, the TRTA Board, and the Austin Team work very hard to preserve our pension and health insurance benefits, and lead the 93,000 members to become activists and volunteers.

Retired teachers must have advocates in the state legislature if we intend to keep up with living expenses after a career of teaching in Texas...TRTA is a very worthy advocate for us and keeps us informed about policy changes that might affect us.

The Legislature is in session--they have just under 40 days to address a lot of issues. Retired Educators have three things they want them to address: 1. Raise the Base! That is the base rate paid into the TRS system by the state from 6.8% to 8.6%--raising the rate would eliminate the need for Retirees asking for piecemeal legislation every two years. 2. More money is needed for TRS care-- 3. After more than 10 years, TRS retirees need a cost of living raise to keep up with increased cost of medical care and cost of living--... read more
