Good oysters bad food – I ordered the chef's selection of a dozen oysters - those were good; fresh and the condiments with it were very good too. I then ordered the bacon wrapped scallops appetizer - it was such a disgrace my dining partner and I didn't want to order anything else and we left. For $12.50 we got two small scallops and some wilted greens drenched in dressing. The bacon on one scallop had apparently come off during cooking, so it was thrown on top. Great food, even better customer service – I went to Stella's for the first time last week with my boyfriend. Our waitress was very attentive and even bought $9 drink I didn't like. I can't wait until it is summer and we can go back and try out their outdoor seating. I would recommend the crab cakes for an appetizer and the scallops for dinner.
Uneven: They Can't Handle the Heat – I'll preface this by saying it was a very busy night. Valet ran out of spots for cars, the hostess desk was running seriously behind on reservations. We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation because the hostesses were forgetting who they still hadn't seated (so the 8pm reservations were getting seated before the 7:30 reservations.) pretty good – The seafood quality is excellent, which is why it earned four stars. However, the atmosphere feels just a little above one of those peanut-shells-on-the-floor establishments.
Excellent dinner – Called Saturday afternoon for kitchen table reservations for that evening. Gary said table was already booked, but he would see about setting up another one, but couldn't make any promises. Showed up for our reservations and we had a kitchen table! Server was snippy and I got sick. – We had a gift certificate to use and thought that we would give it a try. We went on a week night, and while there was no wait, we had to sit at high top bar tables on uncomfortable bar stools. The server was oddly snippy and we got the impression that we should have felt special to be served by him. I got a trio of fish items that included swordfish. What's fresh? What's healthy? – First, for the prices this place charges, you'd think you'd be getting something better than an earnest, decently trained home cook could provide. This is not the case. Be sure to ask if what you're ordering is actually fresh or frozen. I didn't see a lot of originality on the menu. I didn't see many healthful foods. Lovely View of City Skyline – My wife and I had about a 30 minute wait for a table on a thursday night--not bad. We sat at the bar and our bartender was great. Our waitress was a slightly different story, but the food was so great that I can't complain about the service. And who can resist such a beautiful view of the city skyline?!
Double...Triple...Quadruple Charged for meals?! BEWARE!! – Carry cash! If you go...do not pay with a credit or debit card! I recommended Happy Hour and dinner at Stella's for 10-15 of my co-workers & friends. Once we arrived and found seating on the roof-top, and prepared to enjoy their advertised Happy Hour specials we were advised that Happy Hour does not include the roof-top patio!
