The operation of the Lake Michigan Carferry's S.S. Badger was smooth from start to finish! All of the crew and staff were friendly and accommodating! But although it is a National Historic Landmark, I was disappointed to learn that the S.S. Badger is a coal-fired steam ship. Upon seeing the black smoke belching from the stack, I originally thought it was diesel-powered vessel. Don't like the air pollution, but do like the convenience of avoiding the traffic congestion in Chicago.

First the novelty of a cruise ship atmosphere. Second the price is right. Third it saves a lot of energy in my trip from Detroit to Minneapolis.

Husband Dean rode opening day and got a stateroom. He rode over and back from Ludington. He said the crew was excited, happy, cordial. The food was wonderful, the stateroom was comfortable (needed warmer blanket, cold day), Captain Jeff is a joy and so proud of his historical ship. Great way to spend a whole day on Lake Michigan. A tribute to all who have kept this landmark ship in service, this one of a kind, authentic steam powered passenger ship, the only one in North America.
