Sinju Just Knows! – They just know how it's done! The service was unbeleivable! The food was mouth watering! The atmosphere clean and crisp! My favorite sushi place in the state!
Well I never... – While the ambience and the sushi were wonderful, I had a service experience I've yet to have anywhere else - and I dine out A LOT. I was there for a friend's birthday dinner. As we began ordering more cocktails, the server asked for our glasses back to make our next drinks. With each new drink order, it became more and more comical as our server continued reaching for our barely-finished drinks in order to fill them with the new ones. Not horribly wrong, but why???
Incredible ambiance, excellent sushi Sin Ju has reliably fresh sushi, served elegantly in a beautiful environment. I wouldn't go there strictly for the food - there are other restaurants in Portland with fresh sushi at better prices -- but the entire experience is worth the visit. There are tatami rooms for groups, or you can sit at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are normally very helpful and social. Sin Ju does offer alternatives to sushi (tempura, bento boxes, teriyaki, udon), but I can only speak for the sushi. I have hea... read more
Insanely good food! – Heard so much about this place so I decided that it's time to check it out. It was seated promtly at the bar. Ordered Yosenabe, it's like udon soup but with different types of seafood and veggies. The soup was amazing. The price is a little much I think. Sushi was great and everybody was friendly to me (as I was by myself and wasn't dressed up) My waitress was nice, but not very knowledgeable e.i. she wasn't quite sure what yosenabe was. She was slow at servicing. I figured if they can't make the soup r... read more
Nice Place – For good quality sushi this is a place to go. The main attraction would have to be the ambience. It's one of the nicest sushi restaurants I've been to. I've been to some famous Japanese restaurants, but this one is the nicest in Portland. The sushi chef I've had the last couple of times was an older gentleman who was very friendly and open which is not very common in most places where the chef is usually busy. This place is traditional rather than inventive. I still have yet to find a place in that matches up to... read more
Best sushi in Portland – I love this restaurant. Nice staff. Great service. Consistantly great sushi. Sin Ju rivals any sushi restaurant I've ever been to in New York, San Francisco, Chicago or anywhere else. The place is incredible. Go. Today.
Not authentic food – The decor of the restaurant is beautiful but the food is just average. The sushi was really good but our entrees werenot authentic japanese food. The salad that came with our meals were garden salads and the vegetables in my seafood stirfry were all american vegetables except a few shittake mushrooms. When we came we asked for a table for 2 which we happily had to wait for. But then 5 min. later someone asked for a table for 4 and the same hostess that helped us was just about to seat them until i stood ... read more
perfect – Exactly what i was looking for - really fresh fish, beautifully prepared, served well. The atmosphere is subdued but friendly, very japanese. I can not fault it!
a family favorite – When my two eldest children (ages 18 and 20) are deciding on where we should go out to eat, they always choose Sin Ju. Even my 16 year-old, non-sushi-eating son is enamoured of the place. The sushi is the best in town. The tatami rooms are a great treat. The atmosphere overall is beautiful and calming.
