Can you say tatami rooms? – So it's a little ridiculous, but my favorite part of going to Sin Ju is sitting in the tatami rooms. the sushi is great, of course, but it's even better if you can kick off your shoes and settle down in your own private little room. The sushi is always fresh, but they do have a problem keeping stock of the sea urchin (they're usually out of it when I go). Also, don't expect great sake knowledge from the serving staff. Overall - enjoy the room, enjoy the sushi and play it safe with your sake choice... read more

Very authentic experience! – My girlfriend and I recently had dinner at Sin Ju, and what a wonderful experience. She spent two years living in Japan, and was thrilled at the wide variety of choices, the excellent presentation, and the delicious flavors of everything. I had the sukiyaki and the vegetable tempura, and both were excellent. Also, the service was prompt, efficient, and very friendly. I strongly recommened Sin Ju for your next romantic evening out!

Great Sushi – The sushi, miso soup, edamame, and sunomono (cucumber salad) have all been even better than the fare at my heretofore favorite sushi restaurants: Mio Sushi and Saburo's. And at similar pricing in a plush setting.

Sin Jewel – Just the visuals of the interior of the restaurant alone invites your taste buds to this very romantically set Japanese restaurant. Everything inside the restaurant exudes quality, class and excellence. It's difficult to point out a single item that rose above the rest as everything was so delicious. My favorites were the light, crispy tempura which seem to just melt in the mouth. This doesn't mean that the rest of the entrees were subpar; they were just as good. I definitely believe that a great ambience and ser... read more

A great sushi restaurant – This is one of the most goregous sushi places around. The sushi is fresh and tasty. The menu is long and extensive. The wait staff is friendly. I really liked the aged tofu and the various other sushi dishes I ordered. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to eat great sushi in a great atmosphere.

why make reservations? – I have eaten at Sin Ju 2 times previously and the everything was excellent. When my friends came to visit from San Francisco I thought I would impress them with Sin Ju. I made reservations, and requested a tatami room. I was told no problem. When we arrived we were told we would have to wait a least 20 minutes, even though we had reservations. No apology or reason for this was given. Once we were seated, (at a regular table) the waitress was not very helpful in explaining the dishes, and was quick to... read more

Fresh Fresh Fresh – This is some of the best stuff Portland has to offer. This sushi is fresh, well crafted, and consistent. I personally believe it to be better than other top contenders: Mio Sushi, Saburo, Koji, etc. To boot, the decor is fantastic, and they offer traditional "private" areas for groups to dine on the smaller Japanese dining tables. Treat yourself, you won't regret it.

fresh! – Delicious and beautiful! The fish is always fresh, the service is prompt and efficient. A nice place to bring out of town guests and relax in one of the beautiful private rooms or sit at the bar and zone out on the plasmavision tv.
