Why I Will Never Go to Sin Ju Again – I have been to Sin Ju several times - at least ten - since they opened. OK, the sushi is fine. Across and up the street is much better, but whatever. It's still nice to have a few places in the neighborhood to pick from. Still, the past few times I have dined at Sin Ju, the service was downright terrible, and it was not due to overwhelmingly large crowds. It seemed to take forever to get noticed, and when you finally did, the service was haughty (um, hello? you are a waitress...) and you... read more

Take Your Money Across The River – Sin Ju does not bear comparison with Yoko's on Gladstone. I had dinner in both in the same week, and by all parameters except for absence of the waiting line, Sin Ju does not come through. Their sushi were on the small side, the fish cut was substandard, allowing for sinewy texture, watery soy sauce lacked piquancy. Only rolls looked larger than in Yoko's, though they did not hold shape well and tasted tepid and heavy on avocado. Prompt and fast service pleased us, perhaps because the resta... read more

one of the best sushi bars in portland – Sin Ju is definitely high-end, it's not for those watching their budget. That said, you get what you pay for. The sushi is reliably excellent and the service is unfailingly polite, if a little slow (when is it not at sushi?) They have a great selection of sake (again, a little on the pricy side) however if you are looking for a solid comparison to Yokos without the wait and on the west side, this is it.

BEST SUSHI – I'm addicted to this place. My husband and I eat here about once a week it is a bit expensive but worth every penny. They have the best tempura i have ever tasted. We have had a couple bad service experiences but the quality keeps us coming back. I tried to step outside the box and eat at another popular portland sushi restaurants "east" hint hint side location but it was terrible. I wont stray again. I suggest the las vegas roll or the yummy crunch!

Lack of Class – I have been to Sin Ju several times over the last year. After having some exceptionally fresh tuna there about a year ago, I haven't gone to sushi anywhere else and frequently make the hour drive to Sin Ju. So when my birthday rolled around, of course I called for reservations. We showed up on time and service was a little slow, food was okay, and the waitress was hesitant when we asked for recommendations from the menu. We had been there about an hour but had just received our food about 20 minutes prior whe... read more

A trip to boring town! – Dinner at Sinju was lack luster. The preparation and care when making rolls looked thrown together and it was mediocre. We were sat in the back with a large table of rowdy suburbanites who didn't even know what tempura was. (They shouted "what in the heck is this??!) For a place that claims to be so high scale I would like to see them offer more traditional items and more traditional. Our servicer and most of the servers there were annoying. The waitress reached over me while I was eating my maguro n... read more

OK – The restaurant it self looks authentic. But the foods they serve are as not as much. I had a sushi dinner the other day. Miso soup was good. But sushi was not as good as I expected. Besides, there were some fish that I could not even tell what they were. For the price they charge, at least they should provide real wasabi and Green tea. Those who have had real Japanese sushi and foods may be disappointed.

Worst sushi and service – I called in, 45 minutes before closing 9:30, and was somewhat discourage to come in. Was looked at funny, as I obviously am not the snooty pearl type, and had incredibly poor service. After I ordered, my salmon appetizer showed up, and I experienced the first warm sashimi, I had ever had. It was warmer than room temperature. Out of 5 or 6 slices, the last, which had been covered by the rest, was the only one than had any coolness to it at all. The ahi was dry, and far from mouth watering. I half exp... read more

should have believed all the negative reviews – i've been to literally hundreds of sushi restaurants - high end and also your ma and pa joints - all over the country. i read the reviews on this place and most were good, but i should have just read all the bad reviews as a sign of skipping out on the place. service was below average, sushi was below average, rolls were worse than your sushi belt restaurant, and the price was bigger than i was willing to pay for the taste. i don't mind price for good sushi, but this place was ... read more
