The "Shear" part referencing the scissors, and "Irish" because Pauline came to San Francisco from Ireland. The decor of the shop is inspired by Pauline's happy childhood memories of her grandmother's home, a traditional Irish cottage. She wanted to create an atmosphere that is laid back, comfortable, and home-like.

Went in with an idea of a haircut and Mary took over and did a wonderful job! It's a very charming salon and they right away offer you tea and snacks. Great service and friendly stylist.
I found my hair stylist. Finally after 10 years of SF living. We randomly drove down Taraval from Twin Peaks and saw their cute little front and made a u turn. It felt serendipitous. Small homey place, cheap and good and my wife was getting pretty tired of cutting my hair :) Thank you Pauline!

Recently moved to SF from Australia and had no idea where to go for a hair cut. Decided to visit Shear Irish based on the reviews I read on Yelp. Definitely made the right choice. Pauline is an absolutely lovely and beautiful person. I was pretty vague when asking for my cut, and with the lack of instruction, realised once I got home that I wanted it slightly shorter than what was originally done.
