As an ode to his Israeli roots, Chef Alon Shaya created Shaya as an innovative restaurant with elements borrowed from his Middle-Eastern ancestry. Shaya's menu is a reverential treasure which was crafted with recipes from his grandmother. The chef attempts to blend the indigenous flavors of Israel with a New Orleans twist, and the menu features dishes such as the Louisiana Shrimp Shakshouka and the more traditional matzo ball soup, among others. This place....Too good. Best hummus I've ever had - gotta get the lamb one! Everything else was delicious! Weird cocktails but I enjoyed the experience of trying new things!!
Nice people operating a wonderful resturant with great food and service. What more could one ask?
Business response:
Getting to serve great customers like you everyday!
I loved the curried cauliflower hummus so much on my first visit on a Sunday night that I went back Tuesday for lunch just to order that dish again!! The bread is also amazing!
The food was exceptional!!! So simple and bright with flavor profiles that blew us away!!! Service was very friendly with great (not pushy) suggestions!!! Can't wait to go back!!!!! As amazing a dining experience as we've ever had!!!!! Outstanding!!!!!
Our very favorite restaurant in the city. Had lunch this past Sunday and nothing short of amazing! The food is perfection and the service impeccable! What a great place. Now, can you open a second location in Old Metairie please! Thank you Alon and staff
We plan trips to N.O. just to dine here. Everything is so good; you really cannot get an unsatisfying meal here.
I am a former chef and I have lived in Israel and New Orleans. I'm also Jewish....And this is some of the best food I have ever had! The hummus is amazing with the fresh traditionally baked pita, the matzoh ball soup was delicious, light and fluffy, cauliflower to die for, and the lamb was falling off the bone and amazing! We actually had some leftover and made an amazing omelette in the morning. The restaurant itself is fun and intimate at the same time. Mazel tov Chef Shaya, we'll definitely be back!
I took my elderly mother there for lunch. The hubs and I have been twice for dinner. The service, food and experience were amazing. You must get the lamb ragout hummus. We had the mint tea and it was delicious. The lamb kabob was great.
Amazing!!!! I lived in the Middle East for 20 years and I'm American and I have Never had Hummus like that!!!! It was a Definite Treat, my Favorite New Restaurant!!!
