As an ode to his Israeli roots, Chef Alon Shaya created Shaya as an innovative restaurant with elements borrowed from his Middle-Eastern ancestry. Shaya's menu is a reverential treasure which was crafted with recipes from his grandmother. The chef attempts to blend the indigenous flavors of Israel with a New Orleans twist, and the menu features dishes such as the Louisiana Shrimp Shakshouka and the more traditional matzo ball soup, among others. In the spirit of his warm Israeli hospitality, some dishes are designed to be sh... read more

Lamb hummus is to die for. Lamb shank and baba ganoush too. It is hard to get in but we will sometimes stop by on a whim and get lucky and get a table or even seats at the bar. It can get loud in there but the service is really good.
There are no words that can do justice to the sheer magic that comes out of this kitchen. It is by far the most supreme Middle Eastern food I have had in my life and one of the top 20 meals I have experienced....ever. Mad, sincere, mindblown respect.
Service was amazing, and the lamb shank was SPECTACULAR! Highly recommend it!
I loved everything we ordered...the ambiance was stellar, we ate outside...the cocktails were phenomenal...our server Andrew was knowledgeable, accommodating, and jovial...EXCELLENT experience!!! THANK YOU
Waited 2 months for a reservation. Seated in a cramped spot next to the cash register but was accommodated when we asked to move. Dining room is loud, difficult to have a conversation without yelling. Service was excellent, as good as anywhere we've ever been. Cocktails were interesting. Cauliflower hummus was great, fresh pita bread was delicious the first go round but under cooked the second. My husband and I did not care for the matzah ball soup, very bland, seriously no flavor at all. Our entrees were good. I had the lam... read more
Very difficult to imagine how you could NOT give a five star rating to Shaya. Creative and well-executed food with top-notch service. The space is indeed a bit load but that's partly because it's nearly always packed with patrons. I've been to Shaya several times as part of a couple of small group, and had a "big" birthday celebration upstairs with 30 friends. Large group or small, the Shaya folks are pros.
We had the most delicious lunch and incredible service! We can't wait to come back!
The modern twist to Israeli cuisine. I love it! Fresh and warm bread in house made out of the oven, Falafel, Matza ball soup, Israeli salad, the fig dessert with rose meringue or the baklava with amazing cardamom ice cream amongst my favorites. Want a tasty cocktail? Try the "Negev". So delicious! This is a must try if you're in New Orleans.
One of the best meals I have ever had All around. It was poetry on a plate
