If you don’t love strange, old Victorian hotels, this place isn’t for you. If you do love strange old Victorian hotels, then you’ve found a really good one offering gorgeous views. A very atmospheric old place with lots of stained glass, grand staircase and random nautical-themed bric-a-brac. New owners are trying to upgrade the place, which seems quite an undertaking. I stay in 60 to 100 hotels a year and I have never stayed anywhere where the guests were as disrespected by the management as this place. As you drive in to the car park the first thing you see it a giant pot hole that is hard to avoid, very deep and has clearly been there for many years. Then, reception was not manned, and when staff finally came they were clueless and check in was very slow and painful.
