My favorite local Thai restaurant – I've tried all of the Thai places in Silver Lake and this one beats the others hands down. The food is consistently excellent. I am constantly trying different menu items and haven't been disappointed yet. I can't speak for the actual dining experience because I always get delivery. Best delivery in town! I usually get my food in less than 30 minutes.
Overrated – We had lunch today based on a recommendation from a friend. The food was pretty good - standard fare but WAY overpriced! Lunch for two should not be $40 at a Thai restaurant! I'll be sticking with Mae Ploy which is about two blocks east on Sunset. You get twice the portions for much less and it's much more authentic.
Fabulous curries and more – Having grown up in SE Asia, I'm always skeptical of nouveau asian cooking. But I was pleasantly surprised by the food at RAmbutan. Asian tapas... ok whatever. But the curries, (esp. the duck) were outstanding - you can tell they use real coconut milk instead of the cheap watered down 'santan' they use at other more trendy thai restaurants in town. The salads were good, and the soju cocktails are refreshing - try the happy hour.
Rambutan – I was suprised to see a 7.1 from the people at Citysearch. I love this restaurant. The food is higher quality than any Thai restaurant in Los Angeles. The Silver Lake warmth runs deep throughout. The wait staff is beautiful and friendly; two qualities that don't usually walk hand in hand in the Los ANgeles restaurant scene. The bar on Fridays is a hoot. The owners always go the extra mile to make your dining experience the best possible. FOOD - EVERYTHING IS GOOD!
Outstanding cuisine – Rambutan is truly wonderful, with a great room, solid service, and food that you will not find at any other Thai in the city. It is simply delicious. The Thai Tapas menu is so good that ordering standard Thai fare isn't even necessary, but if you must, the Panang is a nearly perfect dish. Rambutan has mastered the art of preparing cuisine that is sweet and spicy at the same time - and the Panang is truly spicy. For mouthwatering food, head to Rambutan!
