We stayed for a night while hiking the Borders Abbeys Way. This stay was very good value for money. Staff were friendly, the bar was weell-stocked, and the breakfast was good. Location was ideal, practically next to Kelso Abbey. The room was small and basic but fine for our purposes.

Chose to have lunch here twice, on two consecutive weeks. Whilst the food is very good, the service is appallingly slow. TWO HOURS TWENTY on the first occasion for a two course meal plus coffee. Managed the same today at ONE HOUR FIFTY, but only because I made a point of seeking service. The final straw was being charged ONE POUND £££ per portion for tartare sauce to go with the fish and chips. Sorry Queens Head - you’ve lost a semi-regular customer.

Originally booked a room for the two of us, but had to ask for a room for three as our daughter needed to come with us too, the hotel were more than happy to help and we ended up with a lovely room for us all. We had a Scottish breakfast the next morning and it was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful for our short time there, can't thank them enough. Brilliant wee hotel .
