The first time I went to Oak Alley five years ago I would have given five stars with no problem. The grounds are beautiful, our tour guide was friendly.....but the difference in the experience from five years ago to the experience I had today was significant. My parents were visiting from out of state and we’ve been talking for the past several years about how they need to visit, the history, the tour guides wear authentic clothing, there’s an actor in the civil war camp, etc. Today we experienced none of that. The plantation house and grounds were absolutely stunning the food at restaurant was amazing... My major grip with this place is it should be renamed the all about slavery tour... Very little was about the people who actually lived there... only the Slaves... Out of 20 min tour 15 min of that was about slaves... What we were told “Slaves made the bricks!!!” What we didn’t learn .... Well Who taught those slaves how to make bricks? Who designed the architecture? Why was sugar cane selected for this site?
