About this business

Come enjoy her beauty and dream of her rich past . . . Located on the Mississippi River between the historic Louisiana cities of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Oak Alley Plantation has been called the "Grande Dame of the Great River Road". Nowhere else in the south will you find such a spectacular setting! The quarter-mile canopy of giant live oak trees, believed to be nearly 300 years old, forms an impressive avenue leading to the classic Greek-revival style antebellum home. This was a very emotional experience for me. I AM grateful our tour guide was from New York (a Yankee like me). That she was honest and not offensively dressed in some period costume. I appreciate the fact that it was almost completely about the history of the enslaved human beings who were held prisoner there.

I wish I could give this plantation a minus rank. A place that has no compassion, patience, understanding or human decency to accept people with disabilities is not a place I would ever want to visit. Be ware if you need additional support or can’t stand quietly in a tour, they will kick you out. Not a place of acceptance. But what can you expect from a plantation. Will not recommended this place to anyone.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful, the trees are magnificent, but the tour stunk! They crammed sooooo many of us in the tour that you could barely fit in the rooms, that they had to close the doors on while they were talking to you! Was very disappointed in the tour! Barely learned anything because I couldn’t hear half of what he was saying! Disappointed that we weren’t told we were going to be unable to take pictures in the big house!

I was there last summer, I am from Italy and it was my first time in Louisiana. By visiting this place, I could know so many things about colonial history, customs and traditions. It's a magical place, I felt like I was in an old movie. I really enjoyed it.

Beautiful place. Entertaining tour guide. Kids 4 and 9 enjoyed it and seemed genuinely interested and entertained learning the history.

Whenever I’m working in the area I’ll have lunch on the grounds, it’s a lovely environment.
