This must be the jewel in the National Trust crown. So much variety of landscapes and scenery in such a small space. We took advantage of the free guided squirrel tour and were rewarded with seeing several red squirrels very close to us. The island has lovely walks, view points and bird watching hides. Well worth the cost of the ferry ticket.
Had the 'rare opportunity' to go onto the castle tour and cream tea experience. Star rating is for the guide. The guide was very knowledgeable, the walk around the outside of the castle informative, talking about the school house, church and farm buildings, however, I wouldn't call that section of the tour, a tour of the castle. Walking around the edge of the private garden to see a WWII lookout and where large guns were positioned again would not say that denotes as a castle tour.
