In March 2011 "Mi Patria" opened becoming the first and only Ecuadorian restaurant in Des Moines. Owner Cesar Miranda (Ecuadorian) with more than fifteen years of experience in the restaurant business, accomplished his dream by bringing the aromas and flavors of his country to Des Moines. This place is AMAZING!!!! I had never had Ecuadorean food before, but boy! Was this a treat. I had heard for years that dishes like Arroz con Pollo were killer, but I was initially hesitant to order it - just chicken and rice? BUT WOW! It warmed me up from the inside out and it was the most delectable, savory dish I have had in AGES. The plantains were a nice touch and the potato patties and sauce were to die for. CHEAP AS WELL! Never ate at an Ecuadorian restaurant before but if this is representative of Ecuadorian food I'm now a fan! We ordered an appetizer and entree to share and both were very generous. We got Picadillo de Hornado: lean and tender pulled pork (flavored with a light sauce) with potato patty (nothing special), white corn, fava beans (least favorite part of the dish) and ensalada criollo.
