East of Broad Gem – Mercato is my go-to neighborhood place. I love the attention to detail in every dish. The flavors are bold and exciting and the setting is quaint yet bustling. I always come in for the specials, I like the way the chef experiements with exotic meats and new found fish. Great food - great atmosphere. What more could one want. My only problem is the long wait but the host sent us to Valanni to get a drink and we were seated after 25 minutes.
Not worth the time – The food was just average, it was pretty pricey, and the service was rude. We asked for bread and it was brought out the same time as our appetizers, then no butter. Such a shame because that space is so cute. But with as crowded as its been I expected better. Oh well, I am sure it won't last and maybe something good will come into its place.
User review by hollygooo – Had dinner there with a couple of friends the other night, we enjoyed some of the dishes but overall it wasn't what I expected. The mussels and the crab salad were the highlight. I don't really remember the pasta dish I had but it wasn't anything I enjoyed. I'm not quite sure why they say it's an Italian restaurant ! Our waiter was very nice.
A lot of hype – I had a very average meal here for a high price. Aside from the nice room & open kitchen theres really nothing special about this place. The menu is very limited, the chairs were very uncomfortable and the so called hip waiters with the faux hawks weren't very attentive (however the food runner was). Go to south philly, have a better, much more authentic italian meal.
Amazing new Italian – What a find!! We tripped upon this restaurant and returned less than a week later. The crowd is fun and lively and the service is prompt and attentive. They have multiple olive oils from different parts of the world that you can try. Their mushroom puff pastry appetizer is unbelievable, the short ribs fall off the bone, and the veil tenderloin was delicious. The mascarpone cheese cake was an unbelievable end to the meal. Really not a bad thing to say about this place.
Excellent addition to the neighborhood – We went here for a large party and were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and inventive. I especially liked their take on spaghetti and meatballs. Worth a try...
SUPERB – This place is AWESOME!! The food is fantastic , the atmosphere is cozy and the waiters look like they just stepped off the runway of a Versace fashion show along with the attitude to prove it! I would recommend this place for a date without a doubt but only if your not a homophobic.
