Interesting Appetizers and amazing desserts with excellent main courses. Great menu! – I have put Mercato's on my repeat list. From the appetizer to the dessert this place belongs on the A list. Enjoy!

MMM...Best BYO in Philly – I've been to several BYO's in Philly, and Mercato is by far the best. I went on Sat night with a couple of friends. We were seated right away! The food was excellent- everything was extremely fresh and presented well. I had the Diver Scallops and Risotto...delicious. The portions were the perfect size...just enough, but not too filling. Our server was great and we never felt rushed. The next time I'm bringing friends/family out to dinner, we're heading straight to Mercato.

Best Meal I've had in Philly in a long time! – My boyfriend and I ate here on a whim after hearing reviews on the food in the past. I'm so glad we finally made it here, as it has to be one of the best meals I've had in a while. He ordered the veal and it had such a distinctive charcoal/grill taste, it was fabulous. I had the gnocchi with braised short rib ragu and arugula sauce- I never thought of pairing short rib with gnocchi but Mercato made the combo with such texture and flavor. I without a doubt suggest going here. Eat... read more

Hell's Kitchen – This WAS one of our favorite BYO's in the city until the kitchen noise level got so completely out of hand. Our last visit in May 08 was most likely our last, with the previous one also a disappointment. The appetizers were fine but two out of the 4 entrees were "just OK", the same experience as our previous meal. As on that other night, the Chef and kitchen staff were at it again - THROWING pots and pans around so much that it was actually hard to hear at our table. The poor people right below the window ha... read more

Highly impressive – Last week I was in town on business. (I live in Manhattan and often travel to Philadelphia for work.) I decided to meet up with some friends for dinner here before heading back, and they suggested Mercato. I had not yet heard about the restaurant, but they assured me a great dining experience. They were right! It's not fancy, or pretentious. It is a little tight, but as we settled into our seats I slowly became used to the space. I have to say that whether it be in New York or Philadelphia, the attention ... read more

Perfect - If you have a Salt Imbalance! – I've never experienced a restaurant that used salt as excessively as Mercato. Everything was salty. From the appetizer, to the bread, to the two entrees tasted like they'd just made a voyage across the ocean in 1640 preserved in salt, to even the four cheeses on the cheese plate! What's up with this?

Contemporary and cozy, this hot little Italian B.Y.O.B. is a perfect fit for a blind date or an impromtu supper. – In Short On the corner of a quiet side street, this petite and pretty box of a bistro caters to both gussied up first-daters and gym-bag-toting Washington West denizens. The tables--spaced edge to edge throughout the dining room--fill up quickly, as reservations are first-come, first-seated. Anticipate Tuscan salads of butter beans, beets and haricots verts with Chianti vinaigrette, hearty-sweet pasta and meatba... read more

Food, glorious food! BYOB heaven. – If only I could still live in Philly. I would be fattening myself up every night here. Wow, this place is amazing. From the moment our cool waiter greeted us in the cozy, just distinct enough to differentiate it from the other BYOBs, dining room, we had a fabulous meal. We started out with the carefully crafted cheese plate. Mmmmm.... figs and honey made it all the better. For dinner, I had the pan seared diver sea scallops with the wild mushroom and pea risotto. I couldnt' have had a more... read more

Outstanding seems to be an understatement... – My husband and I took our parents out for a night on the town and were pleasantly surprised with this inconspicuous center city attraction. The food was phenomenal in every respect - from the salad and appetizer to the main entree. You should definitely order the butternut squash soup appetizer as it leads well into whatever entree you may choose. Of note, the filet mignon was so unbelievably good that I was actually a little bit uspet when I had finished. The portions are perfe... read more
